Recovering From Tubal Ligation Reversal
Tubal ligation reversal is similar to a vasectomy reversal because they are both types of procedures used to keep a couple from having any more children. The main difference between the two is how they are performed and how long it takes for the man or woman to recover afterwards.
A vasectomy takes around fifteen minutes and the man can recover in as little as two days. The tubal ligation reversal procedure takes thirty minutes to a few hours and once it is finished the woman will be brought into a recovery room in the hospital where she will be allowed to rest while the anesthesia wears off.
The majority of woman who undergo this procedure will have a small amount of pain during the recovery process. Your doctor will be able to prescribe you the right type of medication that will help to relieve this based on what type of pain you are experiencing.
If the doctors had to inject your abdomen with gas you will feel bloated and will experience pain in your shoulder or chest. This feeling can last up to three days. The best way to help fight this off is to walk around, use a heating pad, and take a warm shower.
Most women will be able to go home the same day as the surgery. Anyone who had a laparotomy will need to stay in between one to three days. If you are experiencing any complications your doctor will keep you in longer.
What To Do At Home
- When you are ready to go home you will need to follow certain guidelines that will help you to recover quickly and safely.
- The morning after the surgery you will need to remove the bandage. Allow the small paper strips to fall off by themselves.
- Do not drive or drink alcohol for at least twenty four hours after the procedure. This may be longer for people who had a laparotomy.
- Do not lift anything that is heavy or do any type of hard labor for a week or even longer if you are still incredibly sore.
- Nausea is common and can be fought off by eating toast, crackers, ginger, and drinking sprite.
- You should not have any sex for at least a week or until your doctor has given you the thumbs up.
- Most women are able to return to work after a week and their menstrual cycle will return between four to six weeks.
