Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome

Post tubal ligation syndrome or PTS is believed to be an iatrogenisis condition. This means that it was caused by a doctor. This condition will affect more then half of the women who have had the tubal ligation procedure. Some women who choose to have the reversal surgery do not want to have more children – but are hoping that the syndrome and the symptoms associated with it will be removed.

During this syndrome a woman’s estrogen level is declining due to the lack of blood supply that is caused from damage to the ovaries. During the procedure some doctors will damage the surrounding organs including the ovaries. This will hurt the veins and capillaries and drastically decrease the blood flow or stop it completely.

One of the more common symptom that women will experience during this condition are heavy and painful menstrual cycles. This is caused by the imbalance in the estrogen and progesterone levels or by a condition known as adenomyosis. Adenomyosis is caused when the muscle and tissue of the uterus has been damaged.

Some doctors believe that the target or receptor cells that help to regulate the amount of hormones being produced could have been damaged. This is usually the case when no physical damage is apparent on the uterus or ovaries. These cells are believed to be held within the fallopian tubes and can be damaged during the normal procedure.

It is important that you recognize the symptoms related to post tubal ligation syndrome. If you think that this is a problem you have then make an appointment immediately with your doctor. Discuss the idea of the tubal ligation reversal surgery to see if this option would help.
